OPENSCREEN

Greece is currently facing major economic challenges, which is why efforts are being made to invest in new ways in the fields of medicine, agriculture, livestock farming and environmental protection, focusing on the development of innovative technologies and the use of unique bioresources available to Greece to address various diseases and environmental challenges. The role of OPENSCREEN-GR Research Infrastructure focuses on finding solutions to the major social problems and challenges that exist both in Europe and globally in terms of health, safety and food adequacy, and environmentally friendly production. OPENSCREEN-GR, as a nationwide centre for discovery of new bioactive molecules with nodes throughout Greece, open to researchers from universities, research institutions and small and medium-sized or large enterprises, and the creation of a specialised network for the selection of chemical compounds with defined biological action, will be important tools for strengthening the country’s economy and growth. The purpose of OPENSCREEN-GR is to: strengthening and expanding the already established research capabilities in the field of scanning large collections of natural and synthetic molecules, with the aim of detecting new molecule guides with specialised biological action, which regulate the operation of specific molecular targets. linking and contributing to the development priorities of the Regions to which the different partners belong. the creation of know-how which will enable the exploitation of local and regional natural resources and the strengthening of elements of the local economy. With the proposed upgrade, the scientific community will acquire an integrated infrastructure that will provide the necessary organizational and know-how needed to achieve its objectives. The proposed Research Infrastructure will significantly enhance the capacity to generate new useful knowledge and results with practical interest on the part of the Researchers who will use it and their overall competitiveness at national, European and international level. Finally, it is worth noting that the cooperation of researchers and productive actors is also expected to be strengthened, by exploring problems of common interest, with further added value benefits for the working groups and thus closing the existing gap between academic and industrial research, with the aim of maximising existing research potential and developing innovation, accompanied by commercial exploitation of the results to the benefit of the country’s intended development.
