The main objective of the project is the acquisition of project documentation, which will serve for the necessary progress in the preparation of investment buildings of the expressway in the section R1 Ružomberok, south – junction I/18. The section of the expressway R1 Ružomberok, south – junction I/18 is in accordance with the approved Strategic Plan for the Development of Transport Infrastructure of the Slovak Republic until 2020 (approved by Slovak Government Resolution No 311/2014 on 25 June 2014). Supplement No. 1 of the new project for the construction of motorways and expressways defined an extension of the route of the expressway R1 Trnava – Nitra – Žarnovica – Žiar nad Hronom – Zvolen – Banská Bystrica by a new section of Banská Bystrica – Slovenská Ľupča – Ružomberok (connection to the D1 motorway). The purpose of the project preparation and subsequent construction of the R1 expressway is to build a capacity-based four-lane communication in an optimal route in terms of smooth and safe transport, as well as the impact of the construction and operation of the expressway on the population and the natural environment. The Ružomberok bypass with the connection to the D1 motorway, which is currently under construction, will ensure increased traffic flow and safety, especially in the city of Ružomberok, where frequent congestions arise. Project R1 Ružomberok highway, south – junction I/18 is located in Žilina region, southeast of the town Ružomberok.
