Modernisation of the ŽKV fleet under OPII – Part 4

The project is part of the long-term concept of modernisation of the ZSSK fleet, it is in line with the ZSSK strategy and also with the strategic documents of the Slovak Republic. It addresses the improvement of the services of the ŽOD, the increase of its attractiveness for passengers and also benefits the development of ITS in the Slovak Republic. The project responds to the unsatisfactory state of the vehicle fleet for regional passenger transport through the modernisation of passenger cars. The basic objective of the project is to improve and make the services of the ŽOD for the travelling public on the territory of PSK, KSK, ZSK and BBSK more attractive and to strengthen its competitiveness compared to other modes of transport. The implementation of the main activity of the project will be modernised 35 pcs of 2nd class BDT series passenger cars. The upgraded POs will be part of the trainsets deployed on existing railway lines in the territory concerned, making it possible to ensure modern, comfortable, safe, smooth and reliable passenger transport. Last but not least, the introduction into service of modernised kits should be reflected in improving the environment and enhancing the competitiveness of rail transport. The measurability of the achievement of the objectives of the project is expressed by indicators: 35 modernised POs and 8 447 340 passenger movements in public passenger transport by rail in 2028.
