The aim of the project is research and development in the field of hereditary tumors caused by Lynch syndrome and the predicted genetic background of higher incidence of selected types of tumors in the Slovak population. The lessons learned and their subsequent implementation in the form of a specifically designed screening programme as well as a central database of specific patients with Lynch syndrome will be the basis for more effective prevention and management of Lynch-associated cancers and will also help design a suitable screening programme for our population. An important objective of the project is also the development of prototypes of new less invasive methods for screening the presence of a liquid biopsy-based tumour. Clarification of the importance of the genetic component in the occurrence of the CRC in Slovakia, the introduction of modern non-invasive screening examinations and the definition of appropriate screening in our population will result in a reduction in the incidence and mortality of CRC and other Lynch associated tumors, an increase in quality of life and a reduction in sick leave, a decrease in national expenses for treatment. The project will produce 30 publications produced under the project, including 10 in professional journals indexed to Web of Science and/or Scopus databases and 6 publications in databases other than the Web of Science Core Collection and/or Scopus; 5.09 FTE new researcher jobs; 2 international patent applications filed and 1 exploratory patent application; thus, 3 applications for registration of intellectual property rights; 2 entities applying under EU programmes; 4 supported by the participation of foreign researchers and the emergence of a spin-off entity. The present project consists of a suitable mix of renowned non-business research institutions (Comenius University in Bratislava and 2 excellent institutes of SAS – Institute of Molecular Biology and Chemical Institute, research-active non-profit organisation – MEDIREX GROUP ACADEMY n.o.), small innovative enterprises (Geneton, Powertec, Slovgen) and University Hospital with policlinic merciful brothers.
