The basic objective of the present project is to optimise and strengthen the technical infrastructure of VÚVH – National Reference Laboratory for Waters in Slovakia and the subsequent additional monitoring of pollution of areas of natural accumulation of surface and groundwater in accordance with the Addendum to the approved Slovak Water Monitoring Framework Programme for the period 2016-2021. Additional monitoring will focus on screening of biocidal substances and their degradation products as well as pharmaceutical substances, industrial contaminants and inorganic elements in the framework of the project under consideration in surface and groundwater protected water management areas. The strengthening of the technical infrastructure will consist of the addition of analytical assemblies to the technique already installed in the National Reference Laboratory for Waters in Slovakia. The applicant shall ensure that analytical methods are in place for selected analyses, validation of methods and additional sampling, analytical work and initial evaluation of results, which goes beyond the budgets of approved projects. In order to ensure the elimination of duplications from other running projects, the project envisages mutual harmonisation of sampling. In particular, it will be a supplementary screening of surface water bodies and groundwater in the Protected Water Management Area (PWO) of the Žitný ostrov region, in particular for pesticides and their degradation products, pharmaceuticals, industrial contaminants and inorganic elements, which will ensure that the information is clarified and its credibility increased for the development of planning documents in the current and subsequent planning cycles.
