Improvement of the National Air Quality Monitoring Network

The project foresees the completion of the renovation of the National Air Quality Monitoring Network (NMSKO). In existing automatic AMS monitoring stations, old monitoring and sampling devices will be replaced by new ones, improving the instruments for measuring dust particles. NMSKO will be expanded with 14 additional AMS compared to the current 38 stations, localised on previously uncovered locations of the Slovak Republic. The project will extend the area of monitoring and public information on air pollution levels not only to stationary stations, but also to mobile stations that simulate stationary equipment and allow to combine monitoring equipment as required. Mobile stations will also serve as emergency monitoring facilities in the event of a chemical or dusty accident. A continuous heavy metal analyser will reduce the time to report their air concentrations at at least one sampling point. The project will also be directed to the professional support of NMSKO, which is provided by the SHMÚ’s Kalibračné and Testing Laboratory activities. The subject of expert support of NMSKO within the project is to provide “Objectives in data quality for the assessment of outdoor air quality and objectives of processing results of air quality assessment” according to the requirements of Act No. 293/2017 Coll. amending Act No. 137/2010 Coll. and Decree No 296/2017 Coll. amending Decree No. 244/2016 Coll. This includes activities carried out by “special measuring vehicles” for inter-laboratory and international comparative measurements of air pollution measurement systems, accreditation of the Calibration Laboratory for selected activities of the reference laboratory according to the relevant harmonised standard for proficiency testing and its participation in international comparative measurements. Once the functional system and services are put into operation and on the basis of the demonstration of the results of the supporting – professional activities and monitoring, the subsequent accreditation of measurements of new stations and existing non-accredited stations in accordance with the standard STN EN/ISO 17025 will be carried out in accordance with the existing accredited measurement methods of NMSKO.
