In the field of monitoring and evaluation of surface water quantity and regime, the SHMÚ provides activities resulting from the applicable national legislation and the Slovak Water Plan aimed at monitoring and evaluating the quantity and regime of surface waters implemented by the Water Monitoring Programme. The measured and evaluated data from the water metering stations of the state hydrological network within the framework of basic monitoring of surface water form data for the assessment of the status of surface water in bodies of surface water as required by Directive 2000/60/EC, which are also the basis for setting measures to achieve good water status, for the subsequent assessment of the effectiveness of the approved measures of the Slovak Water Plan and for setting the objectives of the next planning period in the field of monitoring and evaluation of the status of surface water, as well as the requirements of the Flood Protection Act 7/2010 Coll. The process of monitoring surface water in water meters stations of the state hydrological network is fully in line with the Framework Programme for Monitoring Water Status 2016-2021 approved by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic.
