The present project proposes the development of an electric light rail traction system that will take into account the technical trends identified, will be in line with the applicable railway standards and with the necessary specific adaptations and will be part of any light rail cars such as multi-unit electric trains (EMUs) and light electric locomotives (with a maximum power of 500 kW) – intended for public passenger and freight rail transport. Integration will be done through constructive adaptations on existing bogies or new bogies can be developed. Depending on the traction force required, each railway machine shall be equipped with 1, 2 or 4 traction systems. Light electric rail cars are intended for towing trains with a low number of wagons. They shall be used for shunting operations, towing trains with 2-8 passenger or freight wagons or whenever the traction power one must exceed 1.5-1.7 MW, i.e. a maximum of 1/3 of the power of a high-power locomotive. Compared to the use of high-powered cars, for these point cases, the use of light rail cars obviously leads to significant energy savings. The general objective of the project is to increase the economic competitiveness of both large and small enterprises, which, by developing links and synergies between the respective enterprises and the higher education R & D centres created in recent years, enable the promotion of investments in the development of an intelligent, energy-efficient traction system for new generations of light rail cars, while developing experimental models to help with faster checks of the proposed smart solutions. The project includes type A activities aimed at identifying and formulating the offer of expertise of the proposing team on the basis of the above, which, together with the identification in the tender, leads to what is best suited for a manufacturer of light rail electric cars. For this purpose, individual meetings with companies and the identification of new potential beneficiaries of knowledge transfer are foreseen. By running the project around performing research laboratories, with high-level infrastructure, we aim to increase the transfer of knowledge, technology and personnel, as well as to increase the economic competitiveness of SOFTRONIC S.R.L. and at least one SME – through direct access to the results obtained from the R & D activity and through the transfer of technology and knowledge from research units. Type D activities are aimed at studying, designing and developing an electric light rail traction system. Experimental development activities aim to achieve a functional model and experiment in real conditions
