The general objective of the project “Road education – modelling the human factor by empowering road users to increase road safety” is to increase road safety by modelling the human factor for its responsibility as a road user, regardless of the category of road participant to which he belongs. The project will contribute directly to Specific Objective 2.5 (SO) of the LIOP, namely “Increasing safety and security in all modes of transport and reducing the impact of transport on the environment”, the activities included in it aimed at implementing measures to improve traffic safety and security for road transport. The project is in line with the provisions of the National Road Safety Strategy, as well as with the strategic objectives set out in the General Transport Master Plan of Romania (MPGT). The aim of the project is to make Romania a safe country in terms of road traffic for its citizens, investors and tourists, for those who transit it, by gradually reducing the number of victims of road accidents, in order to be able to enter in the common schedule established by the EU Member States, in perspective, the number of those who die or seriously injured in the road transport system must be reduced as close to zero as possible so that the level of risk in the road transport system is at least as low as in any other system of social and economic life under normal conditions. Reducing the number of road accidents is a priority for Romania, which is why the National Strategy for Ruriera Safety has been adopted, and the institutions involved act permanently to reduce the road risk. The causes of road accidents are diverse and guilt lies both with drivers and other road users alike. The main problem is the lack of education to ensure the “cohabitation” of all users of the public road safely. Regardless of age, the rules on road traffic imposed by society on road users must be known and respected consistently and responsibly. The activities carried out under the project aim to improve the level of knowledge and compliance with road rules, as well as to raise awareness of the dangers faced by those who breach traffic rules. Thus, educational and preventive actions will be organised to raise awareness of the road risk, by carrying out road education campaigns at national level, using modern communication methods to send the preventive message to the target groups. Having regard to the fact that the objectives of the project are aimed at increasing road safety, reducing the number of people who died in
