The regional project for the development of water and waste water infrastructure in Cluj and Sălaj counties in 2014-2020 aims to continue the local development strategy of the water and waste water sector in Cluj and Sălaj counties in order to meet the requirements of the Environmental Acquis of the European Union by promoting investments in the field of water and waste water. The overall objective of the project is to: Improving the water and waste water infrastructure in the counties of Cluj and Sălaj by expanding and developing the microbiologically controlled, safe and health protection drinking water service in localities with more than 50 inhabitants and ensuring the collection and treatment of waste water for agglomerations above 2,000 p.e. to comply with the requirements of the European Directives on the quality of water intended for human consumption (Directive 98/83/EC) and on waste water treatment (Directive 91/271/EEC). The project contributes to achieving the results pursued by the programme under OS 3.2. contributing to the result indicators of LIOP – OS 3.2. and to compliance with European directives: the following indicators will be reached in 2023: CO18 = 239.389 place; CO19 = 71.461 p.e. The project will contribute to the socio-economic development of the area primarily by ensuring an improved level of health and comfort for the population, safe and continuous. Socio-economic benefits are properly addressed in Appendix 4/Vol.II-Cost-Benefit Analysis. The project will contribute to the socio-economic development of the area by: improving living conditions in rural areas by establishing waste water collection systems and ensuring the safe and continuous supply of drinking water; economic growth in the project area through improvement of water and wastewater infrastructure; — the creation of new jobs during the execution of the works; resource savings for the population; efficiency of operating costs; earnings for the labour force involved in the execution period. The project involves new job opportunities at both project implementation and investment exploitation stage. For the operation of the water and sewerage systems set up by the project, it is estimated that the staff of the regional operator will be supplemented by 90 posts.
