Project Phase Integrate Waste Management System in Dolj County

The project aims to implement an integrated waste management system at the level of Dolj county, to ensure the provision of sanitation services for the entire population of the county and to reduce the number of polluted sites in the county, thus contributing to the achievement of better health conditions for the county inhabitants. The aim of the project “Waste Management System in Dolj County” is to establish a set of measures that will gradually lead to a high standard of living of the population in Dolj county, as well as to a less polluted environment. In this respect, the following general objectives have been established: — The increase of living and environmental standards in Dolj county, mainly aimed at complying with the environmental acquis communautaire and the commitments Romania has made under the Accession Treaty; — The development of a sustainable waste management system in Dolj county, by improving the waste management mode and reducing the number of polluted areas in the county, in accordance with the practices and policies of the European Union. The integrated waste management system will improve the quality of the environment and the living conditions of the inhabitants of Dolj County. The project proposed for funding from LIOP 2014-2020 represents phase II of the project “Integrated Waste Management System in Dolj County”, which aims to complete/extend the existing waste management infrastructure by making investments leading to the development of an integrated waste management system, so that compliance standards with the EU environmental protection requirements are met, as well as the targets assumed by Romania through the Treaty of Accession to the European Union, and anume:reducerea the annual amount of biodegradable waste stored by 65 % compared to the total quantity stored in 1995; a considerable reduction in the storage of packaging waste; — closing of deposits of uncoupled waste; — increasing the amount of recyclable waste recovered and recovered. These objectives will be achieved by completing the sorting station in Craiova capacity 44,000 tonnes/year, of the composting stations in Craiova – capacity 18000 tons/year, composting station Calafat 5.500 tons/year and by closing non-compliant landfills in Calafat, Filiasi, Segarcea localities. As regards the specific objectives of the project, they were established on the basis of the objectives of the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme 2014-2020 and the 2020 Strategy (Thematic objective 06 – Conservation and protection of the environment and promotion of resource efficiency), namely: • Reducing the amount of waste stored; • Promoting the use of waste for the production of alternative raw materials by increasing the amount of recycled/recovered waste; • Creating decent living conditions by establishing effective hand structures
