The aim of the project is to continue the local strategy for the development of the water and wastewater sector in Arges County in order to meet the requirements of the EU Environmental Acquis by promoting investments in the field of water and waste water to ensure compliance with Directives 91/271/EEC and 98/83/EC. The general objective of the project is to improve the water and waste water infrastructure in Arges County by extending the microbiologically controlled drinking water supply service in localities with more than 50 inhabitants and ensuring the collection and treatment of waste water for agglomerations of more than 2,000 p.e. The main objective of the local strategy for the development of the water sector in Arges county is to ensure compliance with the requirements of national and European legislation within the transition periods agreed by Romania and the EU for the environmental sector, compliance with the requirements of EU Directive 98/83/EC on the quality of water intended for human consumption transposed into national legislation by Law No 458/2002 on drinking water amended by Law 311/2004. Investments in the water sector within the project are intended to ensure access to quality drinking water for a population of 217.551 inhabitants from the localities included in the project area grouped into 9 water supply systems. The main objective of the local strategy for the development of the waste water sector is to ensure compliance with the requirements of national and European legislation within the transition periods agreed by Romania and the EU for the environmental sector, the implementation of EU Directive 91/271/EEC transposed into national legislation by NTPA 001 and NTPA 011 regarding the collection and treatment of waste water in Arges County. For the waste water infrastructure within the feasibility study there are investments for 6 agglomerations with a total equivalent population of 217.795 L.E. Of the 6 agglomerations of waste water, the feasibility study includes investments to expand the existing sewerage networks in 4 agglomerations, and in two agglomerations will be established sewerage networks and a treatment plant.
