DEFENSES OF BANKS ON THE SULINA CHANNEL – FINAL STAGE

The general objective of the project is to increase the attractiveness of shipping on the TEN-T network by improving the conditions of sailing on the Sulina Canal and preventing risks, in order to increase the quality of the services offered to the shipping operators and to handle an increased volume of cargo in line with the existing potential. The purpose of the investment is to stop the erosion phenomena of the Danube riverbed in order to maintain the current level of debts and improve the safety of navigation on the Sulina Canal, in conjunction with ensuring the protection of the environment and localities, with the dynamisation of economic development, in accordance with the provisions of the Master General Transport Plan of Romania, of its obligations under the Partnership Agreement 2014-2020 and the specific national legislation. The project refers to the construction of hydrotechnical constructions on the Sulina Canal on sectors of banks affected by erosion along the Sulina Canal, in addition to the works already carried out since 1982, from marine mile Mm 34+ 705 – to Sulina at marine mile Mm 0 and from marine mile Mm 0 to Hm 80. The hydrotechnical constructions include, in addition to the shore defences, the rehabilitation of 5 existing estaches and the execution of 6 new estaches, as well as the consolidation of the conduction moules at Ceatal Sfantu Gheoghe and for the protection of access to Fortuna Lake, as well as the consolidation of the existing northern and southern jets to direct the navigable fairway in the Black Sea. The implementation of the Project is part of the actions carried out by the FMAJ as a Navigational Administration correlated with all previous projects, described in point A4.4 to ensure the navigability conditions on the Danube. The project covered by this application is complementary to the project CCI 2007RO161PO003 “Fezability Study for Bank Defence on the Sulina Canal – Final Stage” (Acronym: St. SULINA), Project Code POST/2015/1/3/004, SMIS Code: 56364, financed by SOP T 2007-2013 Axis 1 Modernisation and development of TEN-T priority axes in order to develop a sustainable transport system and integrate it into EU transport networks, Major area of intervention 1.3 Modernisation and development of shipping infrastructure along the TEN-T Priority Axis 18, Project type: technical assistance for project preparation. The implementation of the project will directly contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy and the Commission’s White Paper by promoting territorial cohesion, ensuring the interconnection of the national territory to international routes and regional interconnectivity; increasing efficiency by removing bottlenecks and delays with an impact on the economic and social environment; sustainability, by promoting sustainable modes of transport and energy efficiency measures, as well as objective achievement
