METRO LINE 5: Section REUL DOAMNATION – Heroes (PS OPERA), IALOMITEI_Phase II

The main objective of the Project is to facilitate the connection between the western part of the city and downtown, by means of a metro transport line consisting of 6,871 km total length, 10 stations and 1 depot. The Metro Line 5 Project, Section Raul Doamnei – Heroes (PS Opera), including Valea Ialomitei, is intended to provide a transport facility for over 64,000 passengers/day from the served area towards downtown, and also to provide a connection line with the existing metro line, at Heroilor station. The new line shall provide a transport facility by the metro at a commercial/maximum speed of 36/80km/h, at a minimum/average/proper headway of 1.5/3/6 minutes (90/180/360 seconds), on the section from Raul Doamnei to Heroilor, including Valea Ialomitei. The transport system improves the travel time on the served corridor from 32 minutes to 12 minutes and will also enhance the commercial speed from 13 km/h to 36 km/h. The commissioning of Metro Line 5 boosts the overall user-friendliness of the metro system and implicitly, shall decrease the pressure on the public and private surface transport, which would also lead to reduced pollution (exhaust gas, noise, Vibrations), fewer accidents, less wear of roads, with major implications including on the quality of life in terms of environmental conditions and general social-economic conditions. The Project contributes to the promotion of a sustainable transport system in Romania which shall facilitate the safe, fast and efficient transportation of passengers and goods, with a service level in line with the European standards, nationwide, Europe-wide and between various regions of Romania. Its objective is to boost the traffic of passenger and goods with an increased safety, speed and quality of services, including railway cross-operability, in light of the cohesion policy objective to develop secondary connections to TEN-T priority axes with the purpose of effectively approaching territorial cohesion across Europe, as well as across the regions of Romania. The Project is located in Romania, Bucharest (capital of the country), Districts 6, 5 and 1. The area served by the new metro line, Drumul Taberei Neighbourhood – Opera Square, comprises a population of around 335,000 inhabitants. The new Metro Line 5 route, Section Raul Doamnei – Heroes (PS Opera), including Valea Ialomitei follows the road territory of Drumul Taberei Avenue, from the junction with Raul Doamnei street, crossing the following roads: Valea Argesului, Valea Ialomitei, Romancierilor, Brasov, Sibiu, Vasile Milea, Sarii Road, Progress, passing through Razoare intersection, enrolling on Prof. Dr. Dumitru Bagdasar street, close to the Militara Academy, continuing on Heroilor Avenue through the intersection with Heroes Sanitari Avenue, having the bottom towards the Park Opera after crossing Dambovita River.
