The aim of the project “New Building of the Science Centre at 2 Rūpniecības Street, Ventspils” is to preserve and develop cultural and natural capital by creating new infrastructure, which is also tourism infrastructure, and offering new services, including natural sciences and sustainable use of natural capital, ensuring the sustainability of investments and development of socio-economic potential. The Nature Capital Object will create interactive and innovative services that will ensure the preservation of cultural and natural capital, including digitisation and development, as well as promote tourism and economic activity in Ventspils city and region. Project implementation will lead to a higher quality of life for everyone, preserving and developing Latvian cultural and natural capital and people’s creativity.The project is planned to start on October 1, 2019 and complete within 39 months by 31 December 2022.The total planned eligible costs of the project are EUR 11517478,76, of which 85 % or EUR 9789856.94 is co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund, 3 % or EUR 345524,37 state budget grant and 12 % or EUR 1382097.45 municipal co-financing. Within the framework of the project it is planned to achieve the following results: • The Science Centre has been built as an object for the preservation and development of cultural and natural capital;• Created for the creation of six new interactive services, equipping the Science Centre with equipment and furniture necessary for its operation and provision of services;• Increase in the number of visitors compared to 2015-80 000 visits (a new object is being created, therefore the current number of visitors is 0). The project is planned to be implemented in synergy with the project “Construction of the Innovation Centre and Public Infrastructure at 2 Rūpniecības Street, Ventspils” 5.6.2 specific support goal “Revision of territories by regenerating degraded areas in accordance with Integrated Development Programmes of Local Government” (hereinafter – 5.6.2.SAM), ensuring no overlap of activities and costs.
