The intervention area is located within the Castle of the city of Ioannina and concerns public spaces, plateaus and roads located west of the citadel of Aslan and today show a picture of abandonment. This area includes some of the city’s most important monuments, including the Ottoman Bath, the Ottoman Library, the Sufari Sarai, the important monuments of the Aslan Mosque and the Ottoman seminary in the northeastern Acropolis of the Castle, the Jewish Synagogue and the house of Good Pasha. In the framework of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy of the Municipality of Ioannites, which aims to promote the city of Ioannina, projects have been approved to highlight the particular elements of the city’s historical and cultural identity and urban regeneration projects. This action will link all these works and specifically concerns the formation of the area of Glykidon Square, the streets of Historical Prokopios, Glykidon and Sougdouris. With the proposed interventions the area is upgraded by traffic, aesthetically highlighted, accessible by disabled people, creating green spaces, parking, pedestrian routes and disabled people, improving the OKO networks and projecting its monuments.
