The project concerns the creation of a social Geographic Information System (GIS), aiming at improving the services provided to vulnerable population groups in the intervention area of the Strategie for Sustainable Urban Development (SBAA) of the Municipality of Serres, improving the quality of life and strengthening social cohesion. With the help of new technological tools (GIS), the collection of new statistical data, as well as updating older (formerly collected data of the Municipality, ELSTAT 2011) data, the Municipality of Serres will identify the social inequalities of the region and will be able to offer specific solutions. In particular, in the context of the project, parameters such as income scales, age limits, number of residents below the poverty line, lack of access to social or medical services, feeling of security, unemployment indicators, environmental problems, home problems or other problems, as well as crime indicators, will be analysed and statistically grouped and attributed to a social GIS with their geographical variations. Through the implementation of the project and geographical mapping of the data and problems of each region (unemployment, crime, population structure, lack of access to social or medical services, feeling of security, environmental problems, etc.) it will facilitate the implementation of appropriate intervention policies (e.g. schools for people with disabilities, Psychological Support Centres, training), with the ultimate goal of providing better services and applications to residents, eliminating social inequalities, enhancing the effectiveness of services, and training, training.
