The project includes interventions within the urban fabric of the city of Katerini and specifically in its commercial center, but also on roads to and from it. The interventions concern reconstructions of the public areas of the area, which consist of redefining pedestrian and vehicle traffic routes and integrating bicycle routes into the existing and limited common area. In particular, and complementary to already implemented interventions, the project provides for an integrated pedestrian and bicycle traffic network, including bioclimatic interventions on sidewalks as well as improvements and extensions of the pedestrian pedestrian network with bioclimatic characteristics and ensuring accessibility for all. An integrated cycling network is to be built in the intervention area, which will in future be extended to the entire urban fabric, either by partially dismantling pedestrians and adapting the cycling roads to the existing infrastructure of the roads, or by building cycling on new sidewalks, or by joining them on pedestrian roads. In addition, new pavements with bioclimatic materials will be constructed and new trees will be planted.
