Fixation restoration promotion southwest section of Livithron Acropolis

Livithra, known from the Orphic myth, is located at the southeastern foothills of Pierikos Olympus, in the Leptokarya Municipal Community of the Municipality of Dios-Olympus, 9 km northwest of the hill of Platamonas Castle, where ancient Heraklion is located. The citadel is a walled hill with earlier signs of life of the 8th century BC, while at the nearby foothills cemeteries dating back to the Mycenaean period were found. The destruction and abandonment of the citadel is located at the beginning of the 1st century B.C. This project concerns the protection and restoration of the most representative architectural ensemble of the excavated surface of the citadel, as well as the overall improvement and promotion of the site, ensuring safe access for visitors and the general cleaning of the surface of the hill. The intervention relates in particular to the surviving Southwest part of the fortification and residential residues immediately inside the wall, which constitute a single set of interpretative completeness. The project aims on the one hand to protect the monument and, on the other hand, to improve the readability and traffic of the site, while it will contribute substantially to the complementarity and further networking of the important archaeological sites and monuments of the area, with multiplier effects in the context of cultural and educational tourism, fed by visitors (students, students, general public) of the nearby Livithron park with which it is in functional connection.
