The general objective of the project is to increase the attractiveness of public transport by ensuring efficient traffic management, with a view to prioritising public transport at the level of Brasov Municipality, with a direct effect on the reduction of polluting emissions caused by private means of transport. Increasing the attractiveness of the public transport system is intended to discourage the use of the car for urban journeys and to reduce congestion and chemical and noise pollution caused by private transport. Thus, it is estimated that the project will lead to a decrease in CO2 emissions as well as other emissions such as NOx, PM10, etc. The project contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions from the municipality of Brasov from private transport, by increasing the number of people who give up travelling to Brasov by motorised personal means of transport, in favour of public transport journeys. The project is part of a complex approach aimed at increasing the quality of the public transport system and encouraging the inhabitants of Brasov Municipality to use public transport at the expense of private transport by private vehicles. This integrated approach includes the following priority projects under ROP, Axis 4.1: • Purchase of modern means of transport • Facilities dedicated to public transport in Brasov and adjacent sidewalks • Garage infrastructure for public transport • Arrangement of passenger stations • Urban transport terminal Brasov Railway Station • Implementation of integrated infrastructure for pedestrian traffic and cycling with complementary facilities – Route 1 • Extension of computerised management system of the public transport system Following the implementation of this package of projects/interventions it is estimated that about 2 % of the journeys currently carried out by private means of transport (polluting, non-sustainable) will be carried out with the public transport system. The project contributes both to achieving the objectives of the SUMP and to the specific objective 4.1 of the 2014-2020 ROP, which aims to “reduce carbon emissions in municipalities of county residence through investments based on sustainable urban mobility plans”.
