General objective Impulsion of the local development of Baia Mare by preserving, protecting and enhancing the cultural heritage and cultural identity The Painters’ Colony is an important attraction for the citizens of the municipality, of great material and sentimental value, identity for the inhabitants of the city, being a monument – “icon” for Baia Mare, with a great touristic potential. This heritage objective is listed in the list of historical monuments for 2015 at position 194 LMI code MM-II-a-A-04494, address Baia Mare, str. Victoriei no. 21, dating 1910-1912, being a symbol of the Baimarian School of Painting, founded 122 years ago as an artistic movement around the painter Hollosy Simon. Restoration and rehabilitation to modern standards of such a historical monument of national value will give a strong impetus to local cultural life and at the same time will contribute to attracting a larger number of tourists in the “Painters’ Town”, as it was called Baia Mare once. Increasing the number of local artistic events will help to boost the economic development of the area of the old historical centre of the municipality – close to which the investment objective is located – the area that represents the main leisure and lobby area of Baia Mare, thus boosting local development.
