The general objective of the project is to increase the accessibility of rural and urban areas located close to the TEN-T network by modernising the county road DJ 254. Galati County Council’s initiative to rehabilitate and modernise sectors 0+ 000-2+ 300 and 4+ 900-18+ 000 of DJ 254 county road will contribute to achieving the specific objective of Priority Axis 6 Improvement of regional important road infrastructure, Investment Priority 6.1, Boosting regional mobility by connecting secondary and third nodes to TEN-T infrastructure, including multimodal nodes. The general lines of this funding programme within Priority Area 1 Interconnection of the Danube Region of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region, creates the necessary financial conditions and instruments for the continuation of the measures aimed at the economic and social development of the Danube macro-region. The proposed investment project, through the expected results, will contribute to the implementation of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region and will cover the development needs of Galati County regarding the realisation of connectivity to the TEN-T network at regional and local level. The aim of the project is to facilitate the improvement of the road infrastructure of Galati County in the Danube Region, in order to ensure a safe and sustainable transport towards different objectives of social, economic interest in the communes of Ivesti, Grivita and Costache Negri and Galati, as a Danube Port, but also to improve living and activity conditions in the Danube Region. The implementation of the project activities will increase the degree of mobility of persons and goods, will ensure easier and faster access to existing public interest services, will provide the necessary infrastructure for transport services. For the inhabitants of the communes crossing the county road DJ 254 is the shortest route connecting with Galati. At the same time, increasing the transport capacity on TEN-T network connections and reducing travel time will stimulate the use of alternative routes for freight and passenger vehicles and the positive effects will be indirectly induced in the development of trade and increasing the competitiveness of the territories served.
