Regional Development for Application of Lead Research on Advanced Metal Products (RUTSAM)

Overall goals are increased material and product innovation at SMEs. Companies in industries that depend on the properties of metals can find ways to achieve innovation solutions in a test environment with relevant research expertise. Project objectives Bridge uncertainty for SMEs about investments in the new technology through improved communication, increased collaboration and extended research profile. Sub-targets: Increased collaboration, improved communication and increased research profile. The project will work closely with some SMEs from the foundry and metal industry. The aim is to design pedagogically thought-out new communication platforms and forms of collaboration that can lead companies to new opportunities for product development with the help of impinging Jet technology. The approach will form the basis for HIG and participating SMEs when they are targeted at other companies regionally and then on a national and global market. Materials on basic knowledge of steel production will be developed and developed into exhibitions at Science Centre in Dalarna and Gävleborg so that companies and the general public will gain knowledge and inspiration about the mineral and metal industry and the impinging Jet technology available at HIG. This is expected to contribute to arousing interest in education in, for example, technology, contributing to more women students who in the long term contribute to more gender equal industrial companies. Development of an Open Lab environment at HIG will commence. The purpose is to be able to receive companies and lead them to the research results and processes that are of interest. The Open Lab environment will also work to capture research needs and be able to guide companies to other regional support resources in different areas. The test bed is further developed by adding interdisciplinary and deeper knowledge about the possibilities of materials and component development in technology. The milestones are achieved through, among other things, the following activities: New multilingual communication material on how technology can improve the properties of metals New communication platforms New collaboration constellations (including HIG Open Lab, Science Centers and other regional actors) business contacts and collaborations Construct and develop new advanced metal products with full benefit from the innovative cooling technology. Design a cooling technique using experimental and numerical studies. Develop and apply ontology technology and integration of existing databases and artificial intelligence-based (AI) methods to improve decision-making in material design and development of metal products. The project is expected to result in companies making contact with the test bed through, among other things, the new platforms for communication and dissemination that are being developed in the project. This creates new and better conditions for a deeper constructive dialogue with companies about the opportunities available in the field of their products.
