Fiber expansion in Dalarna 2020-2023 (ERUF5)

Reasons The prerequisites for running a company as well as living and operating in a number of areas in Dalarna are adversely affected by the lack of access to broadband with high transmission speed. Cause There is no market incentive for building fibre in the relevant areas. The reasons for this can vary from case to case. Central, however, is that the cost is too high in relation to the estimated revenue. A typical explanation is that the number of potential customers in the area is too small for a network owner to engage on purely market terms. Overall objectives: to strengthen the conditions for driving and developing SMEs in designated areas where there is currently no access to fibre. Project objectives: to contribute to the expansion of fibre up to areas where companies currently do not have access to this. Sub-targets: In ERUF5 5, localised fibre networks are built to 5 areas where companies currently lack fibre. Expected project results Based on analysis of the areas included in the project and SCB data on the occurrence of establishments, it is estimated that the project relates to 57 establishments. The expected result after the project is that these areas are reached by localised fibres. In the long run, this interacts with the expansion of access networks (area networks) so that the end result becomes concrete opportunity for SME to purchase fibre-based services at its establishment.
