As a result of the long-term emissions of process water caused by pulp industry plants, large amounts of contaminated fibre materials have been sedimented along the Västernorrland watercourses. The project aims to, together with private and public actors, find ways to use natural microbes, such as fungi, plants and bacteria, to develop methods to detoxify and utilise these large amounts of sedimented fibre materials. Detoxed materials should then be able to be used for several commercial applications through various processing processes. If the project succeeds in finding economically defensible methods for remediation, removal and processing of sedimentated fibre materials, there are large national and international commercialisation opportunities for companies in the region. As a result, the research results will be disseminated in its entirety through information days, conferences, public meetings, project website and through the media as well as scientific publications.
