ENCOM II is a continuation of the ENCOM 2020 framework project where companies are provided financial support for investments in new energy-efficient products and services or investments in making their own production more energy efficient. The ENCOM 2020 project, which is currently ongoing, has had the same goal and purpose as ENCOM II, and the results and experiences so far are very positive. The last decisions on support will be made in autumn 2017. The conclusion is that there is a great need for this kind of support and that the project is able to achieve set goals. The first 20 grants have resulted in an energy efficiency of 411,000 megawatt hours per year and 119 new jobs. Each new job has cost SEK 217 000 in public support crowns while saving large amounts of energy. Companies that invested in making their own production more energy efficient save 995 megawatt hours at an average contribution cost of SEK 12.07 per saved kilowatt hour. Companies that have invested in new efficient products will mean a savings of 410,000 megawatt hours when they reach the market, at an average cost of SEK 0.03 per saved kilowatt hour. The investments in ENCOM II will also lead to increased or secured employment. Investments that provide significant energy savings per invested krona are prioritised. Support can be provided for investments in buildings, machinery and consulting costs for service or product development. The companies should only have their operations in Dalarna and be classified as small or medium-sized. Each application is assessed individually and the grant percentage varies according to the type of investment, needs and investment location. The project leads to both increased employment and reduced climate impact.
