The project should be seen as a continuation of the investments that have been made in the past for broadband expansion in Västerbotten County. The project is a direct continuation of the ongoing collaboration project for the expansion of local networks in Västerbotten; Broadband TO FLER, which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and is owned by AC-Net External Service AB. The purpose of the project; Broadband TO FLER stage 2, is to build local networks (OSN) in sparsely populated parts of Västerbotten County where market conditions for the expansion of broadband infrastructure are lacking. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to Västerbotten’s goal that 95 % of the county’s companies and households should have a broadband connection of at least 100 Mbit/s by 2020. The project goal is to increase the number of possible broadband connections for companies and households in Västerbotten County. After the end of the project period, each municipality owns and is responsible for its respective investments in the broadband network. In addition, more companies and households in rural areas in Västerbotten will be given the opportunity to connect to a faster broadband network that is ultimately necessary for sustainable regional growth.
