Broadband for more

The project is a collaborative project between AC-Net and all 15 municipalities in Västerbotten, where AC-Net is the project owner and central coordinator for broadband expansion. The purpose of the project is to build local networks (OSN) in sparsely populated parts of Västerbotten County where market conditions for the expansion of broadband infrastructure are lacking. The project will give each municipality the opportunity to build at least one local network (OSN) along prioritised routes during the project period on equal terms. In 2014, AC-Net, together with the city network in Västerbotten, conducted a feasibility study ¿Bredband step 2 Västerbotten¿i aims to investigate the conditions for continued broadband expansion throughout the county. The results of the study show a need for localised and access networks in Västerbotten. The goal of the project is to increase the number of possible broadband connections for companies in Västerbotten County. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to Västerbotten’s goal that 95 % of the county’s companies and households should have a broadband connection of at least 100 Mbit/s by 2020. After the end of the project period, each municipality owns and is responsible for its respective investments in the broadband network. In addition, more companies and households in rural areas in Västerbotten will be given the opportunity to connect to a faster broadband network that is ultimately necessary for sustainable regional growth.
