Fiber to Gävleborg_1

Goal The overall goal of the project is to increase the expansion of broadband and high-speed networks to small and medium-sized enterprises in sparsely populated areas where the market does not have any interest in commercial expansion. In this project, which is the first of several, fiber expansion will take place to two stretches in Söderhamn comprising about 14.5 km and to five larger areas in Ljusdal comprising about 118 km of fibre. The project has estimated that 533 companies will have the opportunity to access broadband of at least 100 Mbit/s when the project’s expansion is complete. Working methods In the project, each municipality is seen as a sub-project. On behalf of the municipalities, the city networks (Söderhamn NÄRA AB and LjusNet AB) are collaborators and implementers of the expansion. The responsibility for strategic and operational project management lies with Region Gävleborg, which will have the overall project management for all expansion projects. The project will have an ongoing evaluation of external actors that will be procured jointly for the regions Gävleborg, Dalarna and Värmland for the entire programme period and all future broadband projects that will be financed with ERDF funds. This coordinated procurement is deemed to be the most cost-effective and provide a good overall perspective on the whole of Northern Central Sweden’s ERUF financed broadband expansion.
