The goal of the project is partly to expand the information technology infrastructure in and between the municipalities and its locations in the region for increased accessibility and security, partly to build an infrastructure primarily to the small and medium-sized enterprises, but also to authorities and organisations to stimulate an increased connection to broadband. The infrastructure provides: —Influencing municipalities’ local network. —Companies possible access to 100 Mbit/s in line with the 2020 target. In this way, it will be possible for all fixed public establishments within the localised distances to have access to broadband of at least 100 Mbps by 2020. The project mainly generates the following results: — Enables that by 2020 there will be an open, robust and operator-neutral network between and within the municipalities concerned in the county. — The local network is connected to the existing networks in Jämtland, Västernorrland and the rest of the country. — The expansion of broadband has taken place in prioritised locations. — Operators and service providers the ability to deliver wired and wireless services to new areas. — Access to a larger labour market from locations where residents today are excluded from this due to poor IT communication. — communication opportunities between more municipalities and strengthen and secure existing opportunities for cooperation. — A possible platform for cultural services in rural areas, such as live theatre productions or opera concerts. After the project period, each municipality owns the networks that are being built within the municipality. After a revision of the routes applied for (see application) based on the public consultation in summer 2015, the routes described below are relevant in this application. The revision of the budget has also taken into account this (see further in the budget).
