The aim of the project is to raise the bearing capacity of the Brånan-Brunflo sub-range, approximately 60 km, from 20 tons to 22,5 tons of axle load (STAX). The method that will be used is sleeper densification. An increase in carrying capacity to STAX 22.5 tonnes means a capacity increase of about 20 % increased cargo weight per train set, which may be seen as a marked increase in capacity. Increased bearing capacity allows for increased speed, which benefits industries with heavy transport needs. The project contributes to more environmentally friendly transport as the need for road transport is reduced.
