Substitute for Red Blood

The subject of the project is to carry out R & D works, in order to develop a safe substitute for red blood cells, called the so-called. “artificial blood” for therapeutic use in humans. Currently, this type of product is not offered on the domestic market as well as on the European market and in the USA. This demonstrates the high innovativeness of the developed solution. In view of the growing demand for blood and its components and the limitations of national blood donation and blood treatment systems, there is an urgent need for the results of the project to improve health and save many lives. The target group of the project is medical staff (medicines and nurses) and all people who require blood transfusions when performing medical procedures. The product developed will be used by people who, for philosophical and religious reasons, refuse treatment with human blood or products containing zoonotic ingredients. There are also large pharmaceutical companies interested in purchasing licenses. The project involves carrying out 1 stage of industrial research and 2 stages of experimental development. Industrial research will be carried out independently by the Applicant, with qualified and experienced research and management staff and technical resources (laboratory premises and research equipment). In the implementation of the 1st stage of development, the Subcontractor will be selected by the Applicant, responsible, inter alia, for carrying out preclinical studies of the preparation on a small and large animal model. External experts will also be involved, thanks to which the project will be implemented on the basis of user-oriented design methods. In order to protect intellectual property created in the project, a patent application is planned. The project will be implemented in accordance with the principles of energy saving and the efficient use of natural resources.
