Encouraging citizens to use the Internet smartly in an upgraded public internet access infrastructure

Currently, public internet access points exist in Lithuanian public libraries and their branches, where library visitors are provided with a service of public internet access in libraries. This service allows citizens not only to use the Internet free of charge, but also to develop their ability to use technology, learn new disciplines, develop existing skills or improve their knowledge. All these activities contribute to reducing the social and digital exclusion of the population of the Republic of Lithuania, help them to integrate better into the labour market, ensure access to lifelong learning and otherwise contribute to their well-being. In order to further increase the benefits to the population, it has been decided that the quality of this service must be improved. The aim of the project is to develop and upgrade public access computer and internet infrastructure in public libraries, enabling residents to participate in digital competence development and local digital content development and other digital information initiatives. In order to achieve the objective of the project, the following objectives of the project have been identified: • Upgrade the infrastructure for public internet access in libraries; • Modernise the LRSS (User Statistics and Registration VIPN software).
