Improving the availability of electronic communication infrastructure in rural areas

The aim of the project is to build an optical network infrastructure (‘average mile’) in rural areas of the Republic of Latvia where no electronic communications business provides and does not plan to provide internet access services with improved data transmission parameters within the next three years, using broadband access networks consisting wholly or partly of optical fibre elements and providing data transmission speeds to at least 30 Mbit/s (hereinafter – “white” areas), by improving the availability of electronic communications networks for users in rural areas, to create at least an “middle mile” network capacity to be available in the course of the project territory to be accessible to at least 30 Mbit/s (hereinafter – “white” areas), by improving the availability of electronic communications networks for users in rural areas, to create at least the “environmental mile” network capacity to be available in the area of administrative access to the project, and at least the “volatile” of the network will be available in terms of the quality of the digital network in the vicinity of the project, where there will be no optical network access point in the area, to create at least an “environmentally mile” network infrastructure in rural areas where no electronic communications business provides at least 30 Mbit/s (hereinafter referred to as “white” areas) by improving the availability of electronic communications networks in rural areas, to create at least an “environmentally mile” network capacity to be available as an advanced network access point in the project. If a solution for the “last mile” connection is found, construction of “middle mile” will be ensured in educational institutions. “middle mile” access points will be established only for those educational institutions, for which the local government will have submitted proof of the planned “last mile” solution and sustainability of educational institution, as well as during the implementation of the project, during the implementation of the project, will have concluded a contract for placing an access point in the territory of educational institution. The project will result in an increase of households with broadband services with at least 30 Mbit/s data rate by 83 800 households, as well as an overall view of connections with at least 30 Mbit/s data transmission speeds. The total eligible funding of the project is EUR 49712371.48, including the European Regional Development Fund funding – EUR 42255515.71 and private funding – EUR 7456855.77 The project will be implemented from 1 May 2016, the implementation of the planned contract for the implementation of the project, the period of signature of the European Regional Development Fund until 31 December 2023 (according to the Cabinet of Ministers 2015 Support Programmes, the Priority of the Project for Project Implementation No.664) "Option of the Project’s Priority of Project Implementation No.664) "Optional Regulations of the Project for Implementation of the Project No.664" are provided for the implementation of the European Regional Development Fund until 31 December 2023.
