The overall objective of the project is to increase the degree of safety and security on the road infrastructure, by implementing a concept of integrated ground-air action and strengthening the capabilities and increasing the capacity of the Romanian Police to prevent, intervene, monitor and manage road traffic. Considering the result indicator: “2S20 Road black spots eliminated” as well as the specific result OS2.5 “2S15 – Road fatalities per 1 million inhabitants”, the project aims to decrease the number of fatalities in traffic accidents by at least 2% compared to the one recorded (1864) in the reference year - 2019 (pre-pandemic year, operationally relevant). The project also responds directly to the programme indicator “2S127 Police units equipped for traffic safety missions”. In relation to the objective of reducing victimisation from road accidents, and especially to a reduction in the number of registered deaths, the Romanian Police in partnership with IGAv, DGCTI and DALI, aims to intervene in the field of road safety in a sectoral manner, in relation to the specific activities undertaken in this broad field, in strict accordance with the powers held by law. The degree of road safety can only be increased by fulfilling all the tasks incumbent on the public authorities and all the competent institutions, as provided for in the Road Safety Strategy, but also by the strategic objectives and the timetable provided for in the MPGT (Master General Transport Plan), thus also as a result of the development of the road infrastructure with enhanced safety features, activities that can be financed both by national investments and by projects with non-reimbursable external financing. The project will contribute to the result indicator 2S20 by achieving the specific objectives of the project and achieving the expected results, which is likely to bring benefits to increased road safety and security.
