Purchase of rolling stock for regional transport

The project consists of the purchase of two new two-drive (electric-combustion) multiple units, commonly referred to as hybrids. The delivery of multi-part vehicles is aimed at improving the external and internal transport accessibility of the Lubuskie Voivodeship. The aim is also to increase the supply of seats and the number of people using rail transport in the region. Lubuskie Voivodeship is the owner of 23 railway vehicles, which make public transport available to the operator for public transport. Successively increasing the number of connections on existing transport lines has resulted in an increase in the demand for rolling stock. The current number and capacity of rolling stock is insufficient for existing passenger lines and streams. The problem is compounded by periodic decommissioning of vehicles due to scheduled maintenance and repairs. Although the operator also has its own fleet, it is often forced to cancel scheduled routes, which reduces the level and credibility of public transport in the Lubuskie Voivodeship. Due to the specificity of the railway network in the Lubuskie Voivodeship, which is only 30 % electrified, the purchase of DWUNAPĘD (hybrid) rolling stock is preferred. These vehicles combine the most important advantages of electric vehicles (high acceleration, no exhaust emissions) and equipped with an electric transmission of combustion vehicles (possibility to move on non-electrified lines). Due to the different specificities of railway lines and passenger streams, the purchase of vehicles in two types (configurations) differing in number of seats and thus in length (number of members) was planned. A vehicle with a minimum number of fixed seats 80 for the route Zielona Góra – Gorzów Wlkp. and a vehicle with a minimum of 150 seats on the route Kostrzyn – Gorzów Wlkp. The Cross – Poznań. As a result of the market insight of rolling stock manufacturers, it was established that it was possible to deliver two vehicles in the short term by the end of 2023.
