Humanisation of the accommodation of the elderly at the Emma Ventura centre and creation of a reinforced accommodation unit (UHR)

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted Martinique’s health vulnerability. Many isolated elderly people found themselves alone and without medical and health assistance. The need to increase accommodation for the elderly as well as the improvement of the hygiene conditions of existing places have the impact of the project to humanise the accommodation of the elderly at the Emma VENTURA Centre. It is a question of carrying out a real physical transformation of the CEV which also requires that the recommendations described by the Law of 11 February 2005 be taken into account. This optimisation program is the support of a reconstruction of spaces: living spaces for the user, working spaces for staff, meeting spaces for the actors of the institution. It is a matter of reconciling the need to keep the elderly person’s freedom while making it easy to supervise, preserve their autonomy while ensuring their safety, organise concentrated spaces to limit the movement of professionals and, at the same time, seek out walking and walking spaces for Alzheimer’s patients. In this context, the creation of a 14-bed Reinforced Accommodation Unit (UFR) at the Emma Entura Centre, scheduled for the second phase of the project, will ultimately improve the quality of care for people with severe behavioural disorders related to Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.
