The project mainly aims to improve the health of disadvantaged groups, specific vulnerable groups (obese) and youth (school children) through the practice of physical activity. To achieve this goal, the project will enable the creation of a new cross-border health infrastructure: the Pyrenean Centre for Improvement and Promotion of Physical Activity for Health, having one branch in Tarbes and the other in Huesca. The utilisation and management of the centre will be shared by all four partners and opened to other key players in these areas. To ensure its visibility and its use by the target populations, the project will develop and experiment “in vivo” 1) health improvement programs through physical activity directly based on prior scientific research results, 2) adapted promotional activities to fight against physical inactivity, and 3) an appropriate communication to ensure a high level of attendance at the centre, to help identify the people requiring more sustained support and to mobilise the appropriate networks (families, teachers, educators, doctors and health professionals) in order to maximize its impact on the health of the concerned populations. The collaboration between two universities who provide scientific support and the two cities concerned about the health and social issues of their population (disadvantaged and youth) will allow to develop an innovative cross border approach, suitable for medium cities.
