Development of the intermodal railway station and associated public transport in Kaposvár county

The aim of the project is to further develop cooperation between public transport modes in the city centre of Kaposvár. The creation of a new intermodal node that makes optimal use of the spaces available for existing terminals and stations, brings a qualitative change in the life of the city centre essentially organised for walking and cycling, allows for the construction of the currently overloaded bus station with more favourable capacity, provides modern information connections for rail, local and intercity bus users, while providing cultural transfer, waiting and stopping conditions. However, the construction of the railway and later the railway station cut the city in two. There are only 2 overpasses between the city centre and the southern parts of the city. With the development of motorisation, bus traffic has become more and more prominent. The interurban bus station was built in 1967 and in the second half of the 1980s the local bus station of a temporary nature, which still operates today, is a local bus station. The interurban, local bus station and the railway station are located in the downtown of Kaposvár, close to each other. The interurban bus station is located north of Áchim András utca, the other two to the south, so the transfer passengers have to cross the high-speed city main road with 2x2 lanes. With regard to the local bus station, the available space is not sufficient, due to the elongated design, on the one hand only a one-way traffic order can be established, so the “station movement” of the vehicles sometimes has to be driven out on Áchim András Road, on the other hand, in the case of crossings, the walking distances are large, and safe walking traffic is not ensured. The construction and function of the interurban bus station is appropriate, but the available space is no longer sufficient to serve high-quality passengers, causing congestion in the internal movement of buses, especially in the light of the fact that buses are cleaned during the day, in the availability of stations or in the case of internal movements. The construction of the railway station is outdated, worn out, both in terms of passenger traffic and rail operation. Furthermore, the conflict between passenger and freight transport functions does not allow the introduction of a schedule due to the inadequacy of the capacity of lines 36 and 35. The capacity of freight traffic is insufficient and hinders the further development and capacity expansion of the serviced facilities. Currently there is a level rail crossing at Béla Király utca and Pécsi utca. In the line of Petőfi Square — Bartok Béla Street there is a pedestrian overpass, which is connected to the parts of the city (inner city and Donner) cut by the railway. Walking is also possible on a separate level overpass on main road 67. There is a pedestrian connection between the two parts of the city on the line of Vár utca. 1. Overpass: The other link is the creation of a new pedestrian and cycling overpass, as planned, at the location of the current pedestrian overpass. 2. The installation of passenger information and ticketing systems shall be ensured in the MAV recording building 3. The objective of the implementation of the terminal project component is to merge the two terminals and physically connect them to the railway. 4. Small reconstruction of the railway station (Kaposvár Station) 5. Design of long lake bus parking. 6. B+R, P+R car parks. 7. Reconstruction of Budai Nagy Antal Street. 8. Road overpass — a separate level reconstruction of Béla King Street. 9. A sequel to the Ferenc Mare promenade. 10. Development of the existing bridge over the Kapos River. 11. Examine the possibilities of building a natural noise barrier wall.
