Savonlinna Illumination — smart city lighting- investment

Savonlinna is looking for cost/energy savings in city lighting. The target is hand-in-hand with the objective of carbon neutrality. At the same time, the revitalisation of central areas is of paramount importance in order to maintain the demand and competitiveness of trade and service industries. The project aims at technological change in order to achieve energy savings targets. With comprehensive lighting design and open-minded introduction of new technologies, it is possible to build event and high-season packages based on lighting solutions. Savonlinna is a pioneer in revitalising urban lighting and urban space in Finland. The project designs and implements a lighting experience using LED technology, remote light control and video mapping technology for the Riihisaari area. 3D video mapping and water screen projection technologies are introduced to support events and seasonal productions. Technical and production expertise will be built for lighting installations and demonstrations, as well as a network of experts supporting the implementation. Piloting video and lighting installation productions during the Christmas season, the New Year and Easter. In the area of Ollavinlinna — Riihisaari, smart led lighting will be piloted to create atmospheres in the Riihisaari area. Led lighting is combined with a visual experience with video mapping technology, resulting in a unique overall experience based on history, nature and new technology. Changing city lighting can save 20 MWh of energy per year in Savonlinna, which is 70 % of current consumption. The project pilots smart lighting management in at least two different locations, targeting according to different variables, so that the lighting package produces more and more versatile benefits for city residents and tourists with less energy consumption. The project supports the local economy by strengthening the experience to support tourist seasons during the dark year by revitalising urban space with smart lighting. The project will lay the groundwork for the organisation of light events in the darkest time of the year. This will attract significant numbers of visitors and tourists to the city during the dark season. On the basis of light productions, the possibility of commercialisation will also be explored with the parties involved. This project is an investment project which is accompanied by a parallel development project. The projects together form Illumination Savonlinna — Smart city lightning.
