Ruka-Kuusamo Tourist Area Recruitment and Regional Induction System (Introduction Game)

The starting points of the project are the competition for skilled labour brought about by the growth of the tourism industry and the challenges posed by seasonal work in terms of employees’ knowledge of the regions, which also indirectly affects the enjoyment of tourists and the development of the regional brand. Tourism regions compete with each other for talent, and at times there have already been difficulties in recruiting enough labour in the region. A growing and internationalised tourist area needs a workforce that has language and customer service skills and is capable of operating in a multicultural atmosphere. The region and the job opportunities it offers must therefore be made more attractive in order to make it more visible and attractive to professionals. The expertise of the workers is a key quality factor in the tourism sector. Managing one’s own tasks alone is not enough, and regionalisation is therefore an essential part of starting a new job. A growing proportion of the workforce in the tourism sector is seasonal workers coming from outside the region and do not have a regional knowledge. That is why we need to find an effective, interesting and quick way for them to take over a new area of activity. Up to now, regional training days have been organised for new employees, which could be replaced in part by a game-free solution that is independent of time and place. Through the project’s recruitment and induction game: a) stand out in the labour competition from other regions and attract talent by highlighting the region as an attractive place to work and raising the awareness of tourism workers about the regionb) moving to a digital form familiar and interesting to modern young people in the field of seasonal workers, supporting the development of skills and quality of service, and enhancing the regional orientation method in line with current practice The aim is to achieve the objectives of three work packages: production 2.Building and modelling of the game3.The project will be implemented with the cooperation of Naturpolis, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences and Ruka-Kuusamo Matkailu ry. The duration of the project is from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018 and the estimated cost is approximately EUR 111 000.
