Attraction to the Kotka-Hamina region

Tourism is the fastest growing industry in the world. The economic structure of the Kotka-Hamina region is undergoing major change, and the region’s young but constantly evolving tourism industry needs new target groups and product areas. The film commissioning, which started successfully in 2015 in the region, has created a solid basis for new tourism experience services. Film tourism can also reach completely new target groups. Several audiovisual productions have been filmed in the Kotka-Hamina region in 2015-2017, based on which it is good to draw new content into tourism. The aim of the project is to exploit the visibility of productions carried out in the region and to co-operate in marketing with local tourism entrepreneurs, new ways of using productions in regional capacity, international piloting and productisation. The project will enable entrepreneurs and operators in the region to learn to utilise the audiovisual productions described in the region as part of their tourism business. The measures will bring new types of tourism products to the region’s tourism product portfolio, based either on the stories of the region or on audiovisual productions carried out here. This will attract new types of tourists to the region and increase their stay. The national and international visibility of the region is implemented in a new way, increasing the visibility of the region. The measures will lead to a positive media presence in the region and a greater sense of community. The project is divided into three main themes; 1) Development and productisation of film tourism, 2) piloting of productisation and 3) promoting the visibility of the region using audiovisual productions. In order to develop film tourism, trainings and workshops are organised for local actors on how productions are utilised in film tourism. This includes designing and productisation of service products, as a partner, where possible, by regional educational institutions e.g. XAMK. Create tools for developing film/role tourism for entrepreneurs in the region, so that they can make better use of the stories of the region as part of their own development of services and productisation. Actively participate in negotiations with production companies on the role of locally-based production tourism opportunities. The project will produce a product manual, e.g. how to build a case unknown road concept; a guide specifying the producers and products needed to carry out the various entities. The project pilots various types of film tourism products developed in the project, organises an idea workshop on, for example, Aaltonmurtaja production and implements product marketing for pilots. Digitally produced to map apps (e.g. Citynomadi, Google Maps) or similar existing channels with content from regional service offerings and film locations. Developing regional visibility using audiovisual productions to increase attractiveness through productions by organising media trips, thematic events, public relations cooperation with production and distribution companies, and regional events. As regards after-marketing, a new approach to regionalisation is being tested. Producing sales material for different channels, implementing influencer marketing (tubets, bloggers, etc.) as well as digital content implementation and marketing pilots with production companies. With the project, a new kind of business will be launched in the region using film tourism. In the long term, the attractiveness of the region will grow and new target groups will be reached for tourism.
