The project is a collaborative project between the Swedish Transport Administration, Haparanda Municipality and Kalix Municipality. The project will establish the necessary travel centres in Kalix and Haparanda to enable passenger traffic on the new Haparanda railway. The new investments in the project will contribute to the competence provision of the business community by facilitating commuting between towns along the new Haparanda Line by creating conditions for passenger transport on the railway. The goal of the project is to establish travel centres in Kalix and Haparanda municipalities that connect passenger traffic on the Haparanda Line with other public transport and walking and cycle paths in each city to facilitate business skills in the region, and that the business community and residents of the area are aware of the opportunities that the transport system enables. The project will make necessary investments for passenger traffic on the railway in Kalix and Haparanda municipalities, but the public transport authority will be responsible for the traffic of the railway and will procure the operator. Norrtåg has already shown an interest in commuting the route.
