Hillskär – infrastructure for efficient coordination of transport modes at Kvarken ports

The overall goal of the project is to strengthen competitiveness and growth for the business sector in Upper Norrland by creating conditions for more efficient and environmentally friendly freight transport with better logistics (especially for raw material transport in the region and transports linked to the ferry) in a north-south and east-west direction. The project complements other terminals in Västerbotten and constitutes the last link in a fully expanded terminal structure along the E12 route. The catchment area of the project covers northern Sweden, Norway and Finland. The project will implement infrastructure measures to improve the multimodal links between maritime and rail in the port area for increased capacity, reduced transport times and costs for the region’s companies. The project has two sub-goals that are directly linked to the project’s main activities: 1. New public terminal on Hillskär 2. New connection between the new railway and the tracks in the inner harbour.
